Misconceptions often arise when it comes to the color of the Pink Panther, a beloved character from theanimated series and movies. Despite its name, the Pink Panther is not strictly pink. It's a sleek, black cartoon characterwith a distinctive pink logo on its recognizable toque.

This color discrepancy led to a popular internet meme. Dubbed the "What color is the Pink Panther?" meme, it features a side-by-side comparison of the Pink Panther and its black appearance, often with a humorous caption pointing out the character's actual color.

The character's name is a tribute to the Henry Mancini melody "Pink Panther Theme" from the movie "The Pink Panther". The name, not the character, is pink, hence the meme's humor.

The Meme's Origin

The "What color is the Pink Panther?" meme originated on the internet in the late 2010s. It gained traction quickly, likely due to its relatable humor and the character's pop culture status.

The Memes' Cultural Impact

The Pink Panther meme highlights the internet's love for absurd and humorous observations. It pokes fun at the discrepancy between the character's name and appearance, echoing a common internet trope of calling out perceived inconsistencies.

The Pink Panther's enduring popularity has also contributed to the meme's staying power. Fans continue to reference the cartoon, its movies, and now its meme, keeping it relevant and sharing-worthy.

The True Colors of the Pink Panther

While the meme jokes about the Pink Panther's black color, other aspects of the character's design have changed over time. The shading and appearance of the black fur have varied, but the logo on the character's hat remains pink.

These changes, while insignificant to the meme's humor, further emphasize the character's iconic status. The Pink Panther's black color and pink logo are as distinct and recognizable as its signature toot or its smooth, sly grin.
