"I Speak Jesus" is a contemporary worship songritten by Phil Wickham and Joshua Miller. It was first released as a single in 2018, quickly becoming a popular choice among churches worldwide. The song's profound message of intimacy with Christ and proclamation of His name has resonated deeply with believers.

Examining the Lyrics of "I Speak Jesus"

The lyrics of "I Speak Jesus" are a testament to the power of declaration and the importance of keeping Christ at the center of our conversations. Let's dive into two key themes reflected in the song's verses and chorus.

Proclamation and Declaration

The opening lines, "I speak Jesus, I speak life," highlight the power of proclaiming the name of Jesus. According to Philippians 2:10, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. By declaring Jesus' name, we align ourselves with this truth and release its power.

In the verse, the songwriter describes speaking Jesus over challenging situations: "In the valley, on the mountain, I speak Jesus," emphasizing the ongoing nature of our declaration. Just as the Israelites were instructed to speak the word of God upon entering the Promised Land (Joshua 1:8), we too are called to speak Jesus in all circumstances.

Intimacy with Christ

The chorus of "I Speak Jesus" underscores the desire for a deeper relationship with Christ: "Jesus, Jesus, I want to know You, more than I've ever known." This longing for intimacy echoesPsalm 42:2, where the psalmist thirsts for God as a deer pants for water.

Throughout the song, the lyrics emphasize the personal nature of this pursuit. In the bridge, the songwriter shares, "Jesus, Jesus, there's no one like You, no one like You," expressing a unique connection with Christ that transcends religion or cultural norms.
