"Mastering Minecraft: Create a Creeper Face"
Every Minecraft player has encountered a Creeper, those explosive, green-skinned mobs that sneak up on you and blow up with a iconic "CSSSSSSSS" sound. While they're usually the cause of many a player's downfall, what if you could make one of your own? In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of creating a Creeper face in Minecraft using command blocks.
Before we begin, ensure you have the appropriate permissions to use command blocks and that you're playing on a version of Minecraft that supports them. This guide uses commands from Minecraft version 1.14 and above.
Understanding the Creeper Face
The Creeper face is relatively simple, consisting of a green square for the head and four black squares for the eyes and mouth. To create this face, we'll use armor stands and items to represent each part of the face.
First, let's gather our materials. You'll need six armor stands and six green terracotta blocks to represent the Creeper's head and four black wool blocks for the eyes and mouth. You'll also need a command block and a repeat command block.
Preparing the Armor Stands
Start by placing your armor stands in the desired pattern for the Creeper face. You'll need one armor stand for the head and four for the eyes and mouth. For the head, place the armor stand's baseplate at the location where you want the Creeper face to be. For the eyes and mouth, place the armor stands around the head in a facial configuration.
Once placed, use the following command on each armor stand to set their pose to hold an item: "/data merge entity @s {Pose:{Head:[~ви~ви], Body:[0f,90f,0f], LeftArm:[90f,0f,180f], RightArm:[-90f,0f,0f], LeftLeg:[-90f,0f,0f], RightLeg:[90f,0f,0f]}}". This will make the armor stands hold their arms up, ready to hold items.
Adding Color with Terracotta and Wool
Now, we'll use the "item" data tag to insert the green terracotta and black wool into the armor stands. You'll do this for each armor stand using the "/data merge entity
For the eyes and mouth, replace the "terracotta" and "white_wool" with "black_wool" to create the Creeper's signature features. Remember to place your wool and terracotta in the correct slots (head, chest, legs, boots) to create the face's features.
Command Block Setup
Now that our armor stands are in position, we'll set up our command blocks to give the appearance of a real Creeper face. For this, you'll need two command blocks: one repeat command block and one regular command block.
Setting Up the Repeat Command Block
Place the repeat command block above and behind the armor stand representing the Creeper's head. Set the command to "execute as @e[r=1,type=ArmorStand] run play minecraft:music_disc_cat". This command will play the Creeper's " CSSSSSSSS" sound whenever a player is within a 1-block radius of the armor stand.
Next, set the repeat delay to 1 tick and enable the repeat mechanism by flipping the switch at the top of the command block. This will make the sound continuously loop, giving the appearance that the Creeper is preparing to explode.
Setting Up the Regular Command Block
Place the regular command block next to the repeat command block and set the command to "execute as @e[r=1,type=ArmorStand] run explosion @s 0 false". This command will create a small explosion around the armor stand, giving the appearance of a Creeper blowing up.
To trigger this explosion, you can use redstone mechanisms or other command block setups. For example, you could place a pressure plate under the regular command block and have a player stand on it to trigger the explosion.
There you have it! Your very own Creeper face, complete with sound effects and explosions. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even set this up as part of a larger Minecraft redstone contraption. Happy crafting, and remember to keep your Creeper faces away from flint and steel!
