Curbside Collection vs. Drop-off Sites

CR&R offers two primary Christmas tree collection methods: curbside collection and drop-off sites. Both options cater to your convenience and ensure your old Christmas tree is disposed of responsibly.

Curbside Collection is performed on your regular recycling collection day. You'll just need to place your Christmas tree recycling alongside your recycling bin on the specified collection date. Please remove all decorations, lights, stands, and flocking before placing the tree, as they cannot be recycled.

Recycling Center Drop-off Sites

Recycling centers or drop-off sites are another convenient option for disposing of your tree. CR&R designates specific locations where you can bring your tree for recycling. Each location operates on different schedules and days, so it's essential to check your local CR&R website for the most up-to-date details. As with curbside collection, please remove all decorations, lights, and stands before bringing your tree to the drop-off site.

Tips for Preparing Your Tree for Collection

CR&R's goal is to create a smooth and efficient collection process. To help them achieve this, follow these helpful tips for preparing your tree:

- Natural trees: Remove all decorations, lights (including the string of lights if possible), and any wrapping or netting used to transport the tree. It's also a good idea to cut the tree in half if it's taller than 6 feet, to make it easier for collection andrecycling.

- Artificial trees: Unfortunately, artificial trees cannot be recycled due to their composition. Contact your local waste management service for disposal options.

Collection Restrictions and Guidelines

While most trees are accepted for recycling, there are several exceptions and guidelines to be aware of:

• Florescent or flocked trees are not recyclable due to the materials used in their production.
• Live or potted trees should have the pot and roots removed before recycling.
• Large trees (taller than 6 feet) should be cut in half to facilitate collection and recycling.
• Garlands and wreaths can be recycled with your tree, given they are also natural and not artificial or topped with flocking.

By following CR&R's guidelines and staying informed about the 2024 Christmas Tree Collection schedule, you can ensure a smooth and eco-friendly disposal process for your tree. So, have a very merry Christmas and a green New Year! Don't forget to double-check the latest information on your local CR&R website or contact their customer service to stay updated. Happy holidays!
